A Very Special Interest.

October 13, 2017 autism
… where I talk about ‘making games’, and why I can’t stop doing this.

When you read blogs about autism, chances are you will come across the words ‘special interest’.

If you would have asked me just a couple of weeks ago what my ‘special interest’ is, I would have told you ‘I didn’t have one. And what’s the big deal with having a hobby anyway ?’

But then, it dawned on me. I do have a special interest ! And my special interest manifested itself right at the time my life was starting to completely and utterly fall apart, in the fall of 2014.
That’s when I started making computer games.

I often marvel where this ‘obsession’ has come from.
I don’t play games often, and I don’t know anyone that does …

Working on a game can be very stressful when you don’t have the necessary skills to draw, model, animate, create sound, and program.

In fact, I often feel like quitting, and just ‘take it easy’.
But the problem is : I can’t. I have an uncontrollable urge to ‘create, to work on a game’.

Making games is the only thing that has the capacity to make me feel good about living. Making games is my beginning and my end. It is the way in which I show myself to The World.
